Alexander Millar Festive Pop-Up Gallery: a roaring success
Fans of the artist have flocked from far and wide to catch a glimpse of his paintings – and the man himself
Self-taught Scottish artist Alexander Millar’s Pop Up Gallery is the single most successful pop-up shop in Princes Square according to organisers this week, as limited edition artwork is flying off the walls to fans new and old of Alexander.
Contemporary impressionist, Alexander Millar, whose 2015 exhibition at Scotland Street School Museum was attended by thousands, is set to appear at the gallery for the final time this coming weekend.
Billy Couper, Gallery Director, said: “It’s wonderful bringing Alexander’s work back to Glasgow, the response has been fantastic and some of the festive pieces created especially for Christmas are selling extremely well! It’s Christmas Time is proving popular, it captures the essence of a family Christmas beautifully.”
Millar’s original artwork and limited-edition prints are on display, and available to buy, including the loveable ‘gadgie’ character he has become known alongside a range of new festive prints, as well as some of his popular industrial landscapes – based on the cities of Glasgow, Newcastle and Birmingham.
Mr. Couper continues, “We’ve also seen a great deal of interest in the Peaky Blinders inspired pieces, with the fourth series back on our screens, the gritty industrial heritage seems to resonate with Glasgow folk!”
Alexander Millar said: “It’s always lovely to meet people who enjoy collecting my work. I’ve met loads of good folk at my Glasgow gallery in Princes Square shopping centre, it’s great to speak with them about their own childhood Christmases, I particularly remember making those colourful paperchains at school, which I couldn’t help but include in one of my new prints.”
Visitors have come from as far away as Canada and Dubai to meet the artist and secure original artwork. Art fans are invited to view Millar’s Festive Pop Up Gallery at Glasgow’s Princes Square shopping centre. The artist will be frequenting the gallery; art-lovers are encouraged to chat to Millar about his work.
